Well I’ll be–my blog is now one year old! I think it’s high time I make some well-deserved updates. So, over the course of 2020, there will be some changes that pop up that I feel I should go ahead and tell you about.
The first change I’ll be making is to my posting schedule. I’ll now be posting three times a month! On the 1st of every month, you can expect to see my regular reviews. On the 11th, I’ll be doing my trans-writing series, and on the 21st, you’ll be getting a new series! This series will focus specifically on reviews of short fiction. There are so many wonderful anthologies out there, and I think these short stories often get overlooked when it comes to reviewing. Short fiction anthologies also give folks a chance to test out authors they haven’t read before, so it’s a great place to start if you’re looking for more trans authors.
The second change is somewhat related to the first: I’ve decided to take a big, scary step into the unknown realms of book blogging and try out some other kinds of posts. I’ll try out list posts, events, and maybe some other things. I shied away from this last year because I’ve felt like I don’t really read enough to be able to create a good list, but I want to try my best this next year!
Another big change is one that should develop periodically over the course of this next year. I have to admit that the design of this blog is rather lacking. When I initially set up this blog a year ago, I decided that I didn’t want to put a ton of effort into making it pretty right off the bat just in case I decided halfway through that I didn’t want to write for this blog anymore or that I didn’t have the time. Now, though, every time I go to my blog, I’ll see things that I feel unsatisfied with–there’s no search bar, there are very few images, the logo is boring and grey. I’ve recently started learning how to use Photoshop and hopefully I’ll be able to add some widgets that can make using this blog a little bit easier. It’ll probably take me a while, since I’m not planning to do it all at once, but hopefully by the end of 2020, this blog will be prettier!
The last change is more of a change in mindset. This last year, I was rather reluctant to reach out to other bloggers and to interact with them up until I got invited to the AuthorToolBoxBlogHop. Honestly, I think some of it was imposter syndrome and some of it was a lack of commitment to this blog, because I didn’t see myself as a “real” blogger–I just posted occasionally. But now that I’ve decided to make the changes I mentioned up above and started to interact with other bloggers, I want to really try my best to get to know other folks in the book blogging community! Maybe I’ll take part in an event or two. 🤔
So, thanks for sticking with me this far, and if you’re new, I hope you like what I have to offer. If y’all have any suggestions for what kinds of things I should add, please add a comment to this post! I can’t guarantee I can do all of them, but I’ll definitely try my best.
